Poverty is a complex and multifaceted issue that affects over 85% of the world's population, with 40% of the poor living in conflict-affected areas. It is characterized by a lack of financial resources and essentials for a basic standard of living, with diverse environmental, legal, social, economic, and political causes and effects. The [[world-bank-group|World Bank Group]] and other organizations have implemented various measures to alleviate poverty, including the [[sustainable-development-goals|Sustainable Development Goals]] (SDGs) and the [[millennium-development-goals|Millennium Development Goals]] (MDGs). Despite these efforts, poverty remains a pressing issue, with significant disparities in income, education, and healthcare across different regions and communities. According to the [[world-bank-group|World Bank Group]], poverty can be measured in terms of absolute poverty, which compares income against the amount needed to meet basic personal needs, and relative poverty, which measures when a person cannot meet a minimum level of living standards compared to others in the same time and place.
